The Livingston
Parish Sheriff Department is comprised from following Divisions:
Civil Processing, Communications, Criminal Records, Data Processing,
Juvenile Division, Operations, Administration, Parish Prison, Motor Division,
Tax Collection, Warrant Division, K-9 Patrol, Uniform Road Patrol, Special Response
Team, Detectives, Training Center, and Water Division. A team of 160 deputies
and support staff operate the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office. The annual
budge is $11 million and is funded primarily through property and sales taxes.
Each year, the staff of the Livingston Parish County Sheriff Department makes
more than 675 arrests, 178 of which were juveniles. These arrests accounted for
over 30 percent of the cases handled by the Sheriff’s Office.
An increase of crimes such as assaults, burglaries and vehicle thefts have
been noted but a decrease in Homicides, rapes, robberies and thefts have occurred.
This is due to the rapid growth of the population. Eight out of the 11 communities
in parish are supported by the municipal police departments. The Livingston
Parish Sheriff’s Office serves the residents living outside the eight
municipalities due to the fact that 75-80 percent of Livingston Parish population
resides on the outskirts. The Livingston Parish County Sheriff Department contributes
to the community from checking taxes and fine amounts to math homework helpers
for kids. They also partake in many community events and activities such as
parades and school functions to funeral escorts and crime prevention/education
programs.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s main office is located in the Parish
Courthouse in Livingston and handles all of the criminal, civil and tax division
operations, as well as police protection throughout the parish. There are 122
full-time deputies, 63 of them providing 24-hour patrol throughout the parish,
and 23 part-time deputies.
