The Livingston
Parish Clerk is responsible for filing all civil suits,
recording and maintaining all land transactions, mortgages, liens, UCC's and other
instruments in the public record, recording the minutes of criminal, civil and
juvenile courts, and conducting all elections in the Parish as the Chief Election
Officer. Based upon areas of common functionality the Livingston Parish Clerk
of Court Office is divided into departments, sections and workgroups.
The following sections serve under the supervision of the Livingston Parish
Clerk: Civil Suits and Related Matters, Criminal and Traffic, Elections, Jury
Duty, Marriage Licenses, Minute Clerks both Civil and Criminal, Mortgages &
Conveyances/Recording, and Research and Copy Services. Facets such as civil
suits, clerk’s suits, adoptions, and successions are handled by The Civil
Department. The Mortgage Department encompasses the recording, indexing and
archival of mortgage, conveyance and miscellaneous documents filed into the
Public Record.The Criminal Department is responsible for filing all formal charges
from the District Attorney’s Office. It handles all felony charges for
crimes that occur in Livingston Parish. The Criminal Department issues criminal
subpoenas, criminal and civil bench warrants, and conducts criminal background
searches. The Criminal Department also files all Juvenile Delinquent and Children
in Need of Care petitions.
