Southeastern Louisiana University
was founded in 1925. Its accreditation derives from the Commission on Colleges
of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award degrees
at the Associate, Baccalaureate and Master's levels. More than
16,068 students from over 40 and 50 foreign nations attend the college each
year. Amongst Louisiana universities, Southeastern ranks third in enrollment.
The majority of them hold the highest degree in their field. Southeastern consists
of five colleges with 26 academic departments and programs offering a total
of 71 degree programs; 4 associate degree programs; 48 baccalaureate degree
programs; 19 graduate degree programs. These degree programs concentrate on
the following: Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, Education and Human
Development, Nursing and Health Studies, Science and Technology.
In Livingston County the Southeastern Louisiana University
has founded the Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center. The 39,000
square foot facility opened in Walker in the fall of 2005. The Center offers
variety of educational programs, including credit courses, continuing education
programs, business training, community music programs, high school scholars
program, and summer academic camps.
